In Between Seasons Bomber Jacket
Pattern Review: McCalls M7637
My husband has a significant addiction to coats and jackets, yet strangely, he lacks any that are suitable for in-between seasons beyond activewear.
After seeing the fantastic bomber jackets my friend Emma has made for her husband, I felt inspired to create one for my husband. (Check out Emma’s Instagram to see her work and what others have created using this pattern!)
My husband tends to be quite conservative with his clothing choices. I’ve managed to steer him away from darker colors a bit over the years, which is a small victory. As for the fabric I selected for this bomber jacket, I chose the design and colours for him, even though he was quite hesitant.
The pattern I used is McCalls M7637, which I believe is still available online. It’s fairly easy to follow but only for intermediate + sewers. I did find the instructions for the sleeve lining were quite confusing. They suggested slip-stitching the cuff after completing the jacket, which turned out to be cumbersome, and I wish I had disregarded that instruction. Next time, I will insert the sleeve lining as part of the whole lining insert.
The fabric is 100% cotton from an indigenous print collection. I opted for a metal zipper because I believe they hold up better on zip jackets, giving this bomber jacket a polished look.
I’d love to make more of these for my husband so that he has some options for the in-between seasons. the pattern is also suitable for women.
